Performance - Vocal, M.M.


The Master of Music in Performance, Vocal has been designed to provide professional training for performers who wish to concentrate on multiple styles of singing and teaching through focused courses in voice, pedagogy and performance in a Christ-centered environment.

Applied Music Requirements


  • Applied Voice (8 semester hours)
    • MUA 531  Graduate Applied Voice (4 consecutive semesters)
  • Applied Vocal Coaching (4 semester hours)
    • MUA 557  Vocal Coaching (4 consecutive semesters)

Cognate Areas of Study:


Students will choose six (6) credit hours of additional cognate electives in any combination from the courses listed below: 

 

1) Vocal Pedagogy Cognate Courses:

MU 544    Advanced Vocal Pedagogy (Since this course is included in the MM required courses listed above, students who choose this cognate will need to take another 3 hour elective course in order for the student to earn the required hours for graduation.)

MU 645    Comparative Vocal Pedagogy

MU 646    Historical Vocal Pedagogy

MU 647    Musical Theatre Vocal Pedagogy

Ensemble Participation


1. Students are required to participate in four (4) consecutive semesters of MUE 560  University Chorale. 

2. Students are required to participate in three (3) consecutive semesters MUE 570  Opera & Musical Theatre Workshop. 

Foreign Language Proficiencies


Students are expected to have taken at least one semester of French, German, and Italian as part of their undergraduate studies. If not, they will be required to fulfill that requirement by completing the missing language courses or passing the appropriate CLEP exams.
