Adult and Professional Studies


Adult and Professional Studies coordinates the University’s degree and course offerings for working adult students with the goal of making it possible for students of all ages to pursue their education in a supportive Christian environment of academic excellence.

Philosophy for Adult and Professional Studies

In keeping with the University’s philosophy statement, Adult and Professional Studies is committed to meeting the higher educational needs of our region. Adult and Professional Studies is founded on the belief that full-time employment and full-time enrollment should be complementary.

Mission of Adult and Professional Studies

In accordance with the University’s mission statement, the Adult and Professional Studies provides opportunities by which working adult students may further their college education in a variety of areas, advance their personal growth, and prepare themselves to better serve their communities.

 Admission Requirements for the Adult and Professional Studies 

Admissions requirements for students seeking admission to the University of Mobile as a Adult and Professional Studies student correspond to those for all other UM undergraduates, with the exception that Adult and Professional Studies applicants must be at least 23 years of age, or have assumed the responsibilities of adulthood. Applicants younger than 23 may appeal for consideration based on family or work situations, or other circumstances relating to adult responsibilities. Adult and Professional Studies applicants must also declare a major offered through Adult and Professional Studies as their intended academic path.

Undergraduate Admission  

Recommended Course Load for Students in Adult and Professional Studies 

Typical Adult and Professional Studies offerings are scheduled in a format that allows students to complete two courses at a time, for a total of four courses each fall and spring semester, and a total of two courses each summer. Based on this format, the recommended course load for Adult and Professional Studies students is twelve semester hours in the fall, twelve semester hours in the spring, and six semester hours in the summer. This schedule is designed to allow students to progress quickly toward graduation, and it confers full-time status for financial aid purposes.

Financial Aid Information for Adult and Professional Studies Students

Aid available to eligible Adult and Professional Studies students includes the Pell Grant, the Federal Subsidized Loan, and the Federal Unsubsidized Loan. Veterans’ benefits and the Alabama State Grant are also available for those who qualify.
