Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: School of Education

The Department of Kinesiology offers the Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology as well as a minor in Kinesiology.  A student majoring in Kinesiology may choose one of the Kinesiology concentrations in lieu of a minor. The areas of concentration are: Exercise Science, Sport Administration, Sport Ministry, or a Pre-Professional Concentration which includes Pre-Athletic Training, Pre-Physical Therapy, and Pre-Occupational Therapy.  Health and Sport Sciences students find a variety of professional opportunities in health, sport and wellness.  Our graduates will have the opportunity to seek successful careers in sport, healthcare, sport performance specialists, health and wellness directors, fitness facility managers, sports ministry, physical educators and teachers, coaches, exercise program directors, and sport administration professionals.  This degree also provides the academic coursework for students wishing to pursue graduate studies in the areas of athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, and other related professional fields.

Transfer Credit for Kinesiology

Credit may be granted to transfer students who have had similar courses on the baccalaureate level in a regionally accredited college or university in the United States of America or one of its territories. Teacher education transfer courses must be reviewed and approved by Alabama State Department of Education. Course equivalency is determined by the vice president of academic affairs upon the recommendation of the dean of the School of Education.

Admission to the Athletic Training Program

The University of Mobile is pleased to announce that we are making plans to start a new graduate program in Athletic Training.  We will begin working toward accreditation from the accrediting body for athletic training programs, the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

A recent decision by CAATE to make the master’s degree the entry-level professional degree for athletic training professionals means the organization will no longer accredit undergraduate athletic training programs after 2022.  Because of this change in the profession, the time is right for the University of Mobile to transition away from offering an undergraduate degree in Athletic Training and instead develop a master’s-level Athletic Training Program.

Students currently enrolled in the University of Mobile Athletic Training Program are not affected by this change and may continue to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training.  However, the UMobile Athletic Training Program will admit its last undergraduate class in August 2016.  This re-structuring offers some exciting possibilities as the University of Mobile considers expanding its health science areas.
