TE 411 Methods of Teaching Reading in the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Collaborative K-6 Classrooms


Credit, three hours.
This course focuses on the study of developmental skills involved in the reading process with emphasis on a child development knowledge base, highlighting the importance of the reflection and use of a broad range of effective teaching strategies designed to promote positive outcomes for each child.  Candidates must be able to correctly and effectively employ and teach proper literacy and language essentials and standards as they plan and implement instruction based on knowledge of students, learning theory, and curricular goals that foster early childhood, elementary, and collaborative K-6 students’ active engagement and the development of critical thinking and problem solving.  Candidates must understand and use both formal and informal assessment strategies to strengthen instruction.  This course requires a minimum of twenty (20) hours of field experience in an approved school setting.  A test fee will be added as a Course Fee to billing. Prerequisite(s): TE 305 , admission into a teacher education program. Corequisite(s): TE 445   (one hour)
