Mission of the School of Christian Studies
The mission of the School of Christian Studies is to produce graduates with a heart of devotion to Christ, a head for Gospel-integrated knowledge, and hands equipped for service as Kingdom professionals. Our faculty model academic excellence and professional competence blended with a passionate devotion to Christ in leading His church to its global mission.
Calling to Christian Faith
Every student at the University of Mobile is introduced to the Gospel of Jesus Christ through our required SCST courses: CST 101 Introduction to the Bible or CST 110 Introduction to Christian Worldview;CST 301 History of Christian Thought or CST 321 Mission & Message of Jesus. Our goal is to introduce students to faith in Christ and for students to discover their calling in Christ for service as Kingdom professionals.
Calling to Ministry
Every undergraduate major in the SCST receives spiritual training, academic training, and practical ministry training for Christian service. Our students participate in ministry teams each semester, travel on domestic and international service projects, and gain hands-on experience through supervised ministry internships. Students may also take specialty practical ministry courses as electives.
Calling to Leadership
Every undergraduate & graduate student in the School of Christian Studies receives training for servant leadership. Our alumni serve in ministry, missions, education, communications, and service industries. Many of our alumni continue their academic training in graduate schools and seminaries.
SCST Program Learning Outcomes
The SCST offers baccalaureate majors designed to produce graduates in the areas of Christian Ministry, Intercultural Studies, and Theological Studies who are able to:
The School of Christian Studies also offers a Master of Arts degree in Biblical & Theological Studies, as well as combined Master of Arts degree in Worship Leadership & Theology (in cooperation with the Alabama School of the Arts).
The School of Christian Studies measures student competence through a series of objective assessment tools, including materials from the American Association of Colleges & Universities and the Council of Christian Colleges & Universities.
In addition, the School of Christian Studies offers minors in Bible, Bible Translation, Biblical Languages, Church History, Intercultural Studies, and Theology.
SCST majors must successfully complete COM 101 to fulfill oral communication competency requirements.
All majors must successfully complete the writing intensive (WI) requirements as specified in the Scholastic Standards section of this catalog. This includes CST 101 or CST 110 and CST 301 or CST 321 for all undergraduate majors. SCST majors will successfully complete CST 331 and CST 411 for the Theological Studies major, CST 303 and CST 313 for the Intercultural Studies major, and CST 301 and CST 318 for the Christian Ministry major.
All candidates for a bachelor’s degree offered by the SCST complete a series of senior assessments and create a ministry portfolio. This component is assessed in CST 499 .
