MU 545 Advanced Italian Diction

Credit, one hour.
A graduate-level practicum in Italian lyric diction for singers, emphasizing mastery of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), advanced phonetic accuracy, and stylistic authenticity in Italian art song and opera. In addition to refining their own diction, students apply principles of lyric diction as a tool in teaching voice, developing pedagogical language and practicing the skills needed to critique and provide feedback in the studio. Course activities include spoken drills, transcription exercises, applied repertoire, and peer evaluation.
