Course Requirements
A minor in music consists of eighteen semester hours, including:
Applied Music Requirements
Primary Applied Area (4 semester hours)
- Students will complete four consecutive semesters on their chosen primary instrument.
Notes
- Applied Music courses (i.e. private vocal or instrumental lessons) begin with the course code MUA
- Music Upper Level: 2-3 semester hours must be completed in a music course (course code beginning with MU) and the remainder semester hours may be any 300-level ensemble hours (course code beginning with MUE). No applied hours may be counted towards the Music Upper Level 6 semester hours requirement. Acceptable Upper Level MU courses include MU 310 , MU 311 , MU 330 , MU 412 , MU 427 , MU 428 , MU 439 and vocal and instrumental pedagogy courses (MU 320-324).
Ensemble Participation
The Alabama School of the Arts scholarships also require participation every semester a student is receiving scholarship dollars beyond primary and secondary standard ensemble requirements.
Hours to Minor
18 hours are needed to graduate with a Music Minor.
