MU 439 The African American Musical Tradition Credit, three hours. This course consists of a survey of music that evolved from the African-American experience in America: folk music, blues, gospel, jazz, rhythm and blues, and concert music. Included in the course is exploration of how the music of slavery evolved through and influenced the worship music in the church and the civil rights movement.
